Write a 1-2 paragraph justification of how and why the course reflects an analytical social scientific perspective.

I am trying to petition this class to be a sociology elective class. Write a 1-2 paragraph justification of how and why the course reflects an analytical social scientific perspective. You may choose to highlight the course readings from sociology journals or books written by sociologists, sociological theories applied in the course, or similarities between courses offered in the Sociology department and the course you are petitioning.
Note that it is not enough that a course engages with similar topics as sociology courses but that it reflects a perspective closely paralleling sociology. For instance, classes that use literary analysis to explore social dynamics or understand a social group may provide an important perspective, but not a sociological one.
I have attached the syllabus and some reading and research I wrote for this class.

Subcultures.

Cul-cha!
(Do you get it? 🙂 Culcha? Culture!)
Culture is SO fundamental to who we are. And, because we swim in it we often don’t see it. It’s invisible, we take it for granted, we assume it.
But, sometimes, it’s made very clear to us how much we assume.
For all questions below, head for 100 words per answer. Remember, just give your answers (don’t put the questions in) and put some spaces between your answers (“returns”) so we can easily see where one answer ends and the next begins. Also, use sociological terminology.
EVERYBODY should address Question #1 and #2.
Given Schalet’s argument, is it common sense or not that teenagers should or shouldn’t have sleep overs? What do you think? How did reading Schalet’s article enforce or challenge your thinking about teen sexuality and cultural norms? (In strong responses, it’s clear you read What to do for Week 5).
What did you think? Share your thoughts on Miner’s piece on the Nacirema and the videos for this week. What concepts from Newman apply to Miner’s piece? To the videos? Explain.
Read both Questions #3 or #4. (Learn anything? :)) Then, choose Either #3 or #4 to answer.
3. Language is a key aspect of culture. From a functionalist perspective, it provides social cohesion. If we all speak the same language, we can all communicate and connect to each other. From a conflict perspective, who has the power to say what language, or what form of language, is the “right” one? From a symbolic interactionist perspective, how do the meanings we attach to language, to words, (to accents!) shape social interactions? So many questions about language and so many theoretical perspectives to guide our thinking!
Think about your own experiences with language living in the United States. How has language shaped your experiences? Your social interactions? Your sense of yourself? Your connections or disconnections from different groups? (You can think about the video clips, including the optional ones for this one).
4. Subcultures. We are all part of one or more. All subcultures have at least some of the elements of culture (e.g., norms, values, ways of doing things, ways of dressing, language, etc.) Among other things subcultures can be based on: ethnicity, religion, sexuality, work/occupations (e.g., dentistry, nursing, dog walking, Amazon), shared interests/activities (e.g., choir, soccer, rock collectors, pole dancing), or organizations/groups to which we belong (e.g., sorority, a masjid, a basketball team). Choose one subculture of which you’re a part. Choose an object that represents the subculture that you own/have. (NOT from the WEB; from your own life!) Include a photo of the object, a brief description of what it is, what it means to you, and how it represents the subculture. Maybe imagine you were Miner discussing the object and its use? (It’s best to include the photo IN your discussion rather than as an attachment… )
P.S: A little bit about me. I’m from Haiti, I speak french, Haitian creole, Spanish, and English. I never like speaking English or french growing up.

According to Lorber, “Talking about gender for most people is the equivalent of fish talking about water” (96). Do you find it easy to answer the question, what it is like to be the sex you are? Can you answer it without referring to the other sex?

Rlease do not copy and paste the question before giving your answer.

Rlease do not copy and paste the question before giving your answer. It really messes with Turnitin Plagiarism. I just want the question number with your answer. Thanks so much!
