For this assignment, you will work with the other members of your group to answer the questions articulated in your anthropometry project proposal. This involves analyzing our anthropometry dataset using the statistical tools outlined in the Instructions for Analyzing Data in Microsoft Excel.
Your project is due via Canvas at 11:59 PM on Monday, 08/15. Each group will submit a write-up of at least four double-spaced pages that details (1) which variables you chose to examine, (2) which questions you asked, (3) which statistical tests you performed in MS Excel in attempting to answer those questions, (4) the results of your analyses (including at least one graph), and (5) your interpretation of the results (e.g., If you obtain a result that does not accord with an idea we have discussed in class, think of some reasons that might account for the discrepancy). No outside research or bibliography is required.

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION:The goal of this assignment is to challenge some of our popular misconceptions about foraging societies. One assumption frequently made by most Westerners is the idea that foragers are constantly struggling to find food and are always on the brink of starvation. Anthropologists, however, have long noted that foragers work a mere 20 hours a week and rarely find themselves hungry. How could this be?
INSTRUCTIONS:In this assignment, we will explore the importance of reciprocity in foraging cultures. We began with each of us exploring our neighborhoods to find food resources and then sharing that food resource to our community Padlet Board. Imagine if that Padlet Board was real and that we were all living in a foraging culture. This would mean that each of us went out to forage for food and brought back one item. Now consider what would be like if you only had that one item to eat. Would this be enough for you? Would this one item be a balanced, healthy diet? Did you remember to also look for water? Now imagine that instead of being limited to this one food item, you get to exchange items with our community!
Start by reviewing the articles we read about reciprocity and foraging cultures:Richard Lee: Eating Christmas in the Kalahari.pdf
Turnbull: Excerpts from The Forest People.pdf
Now you are ready to think like an anthropologist! Please write a short essay (about 2 typed, 12 point font, double spaced pages), that considers the following question:PROMPT: How does reciprocity help foragers to rarely experience hunger and starvation?
Your essay response should include:
an argument (thesis)
evidence from the reading and lecture
an analysis of your evidence
an essay structure, complete with an introduction, body paragraph and a conclusion
Your argument should include:
Use specific evidence from both the articles:Richard Lee: Eating Christmas in the Kalahari.pdf
Turnbull: Excerpts from The Forest People.pdf
and the Padlet Board
Discuss in your essay how that evidence supports your argumentInclude the food items you found and those you would eat from our Padlet Board. Reflect on how having access to your community’s food resources really changed your diet and potentially your health
Foods from padlet board to include: cow, tomato plants, mushrooms, oranges, strawberries
Avoid using vague language because you assume that your reader already knows about the topic. Instead, imagine that your reader has no knowledge on this topic and you really want to persuade them that your argument is correct. To do that, you will need to explain the topic and your evidence to them so that you can be convincing.
Format for your Essay:
1-2 page essay/500-700 words (double-spaced, 12-pt font) Your answer can be longer than this but needs to be at a minimum 1 page. Why? This is a complicated question so you’ll need that space to address it well.
There is no right or wrong answer, but your answer needs to include material from:
Richard Lee: Eating Christmas in the Kalahari.pdf
Turnbull: Excerpts from The Forest People.pdf
Textbook Chapter 6
Requirements: 500-700 Words Times New Roman Size 12 Font Double-Spaced APA Format Excluding the Title and Works Cited Pages
Please be sure to include an introduction paragraph with a clear thesis statement at the end along with a conclusion paragraph
Please be sure to carefully follow the instructions
No plagiarism & No Course Hero & No Chegg. The assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool
Please be sure to include at least one in-text citation in each body paragraph Please be sure to read, use, and cite the sources provided. Please make sure that additional sources are credible or scholarly

“The student will select a particular cultural group, such as the Hopi, Sioux, Trobriand Islanders, the Nuer, Massi, Kurds, Fuzhounese, etc. And select a universal biological need or universal phenomena and describe how that need is met in the selected culture or what ceremony or practice takes place to mark a phenomena. You’ll be describing the culture’s particular cultural pattern or practice for one of the universal needs or phenomena and providing your assessment of why that practice is pattered as it is. A good guide to this is Ruth Benedict’s Patterns of Culture. It should have an introduction (including thesis), a paragraph stating the selected definition of culture and argumentation why it was selected, a paragraph (or several) introducing your selected cultural group, describing where the group lives/lived. It will also have a paragraph stating the universal biological need or phenomena selected and a description of how your selected cultural group meets the need or passes the phenomena. This section will be based on your research and can be as long as necessary to provide a basis of comparison. You should describe the pattern or practice based on your research of the selected group. The student will compare and contrast the cultural pattern or practice between the selected cultural group and their own cultural group. Highlighting observed differences, noting any similarities. Ultimately, the student will determine if the cultural pattern observed for the event or practice can be more broadly generalized to other of the universal needs or phenomena. Does the cultural patterning inform or shape a person’s approach to other situations in their lives and how? Remember that Culture and Place are linked attributes. it should be 5-7 seven pages in length with no specified amount of resources. “
