Assignment: Public Service Campaign
Imagine that you have been commissioned by a local food activist group to design a poster, infographic, or another visual document that could serve as a part of a public service campaign. The goal of the public service campaign is to raise awareness about the effects of a variety of different food production and consumption habits.
Assignment Requirements
The food activist group has given you the freedom to choose from a list of different topics on which you can raise awareness. The list follows below. Based on the topic you choose to advocate for, decide who the target audience might be. Your audience might be farmers, consumers, food production and distribution businesses, governments, international organizations, or it may be widely applicable to a host of different audiences. Design your campaign piece to suit the audience you are targeting. The campaign piece you produce should be more of visual representation of information rather than text-heavy. Make use of facts, statistics, information, images, and text in order to convey the messages you are trying to present.
Awareness Topics
Raise awareness on how geographical factors, environmental conditions, or natural disaster(s) have affected food supply in a particular region (be specific)
Raise awareness on how consumer choices affect the environment locally or globally (consider exploring issues such as local vs imported foods, fair trade vs free trade, over-packaging vs minimal packaging, sustainable food production and consumption habits, demand for cash-crops instead of food production etc)
Raise awareness on how different agricultural methods can improve crop yields and food production (ex. crop rotation, no tillage, fallow fields, pest management etc)
Raise awareness on how agricultural practices can affect the environment (ex. crops for biofuels, pollution, water use, soil use, clearing land for agriculture, genetic engineering etc)
Raise awareness about the biological risks associated with pesticides, hormones, or food-borne illnesses based on current food production, processing, and distribution methods
