choose ONLY ONE of the topics below and share your thoughts. Please note that the platform we define here has to involve third parties, not in the loosely defined cases, e.g., a digital ‘platform’ used to house the company’s own products or just meant some ‘platform’ to help develop, launch or promote the company’s products.
1. Do a case study of a startup, whether it chose a platform or the traditional pipeline business. Analyze whether you would have made the same decision and why. Be specific about what factors will go into your decision, including any other factors than those mentioned above.
2. Do a case study of how a company used platform thinking to drive future growth by generating more revenue sources or improving current revenue generation. Some examples are Schneider Electric Exchange, MyJohnDeer, Disney Plus, Royal Philips launches HealthSuite, IKEA’s acquisition of TaskRabbit, Target Plus, Volkswagen We.
3. Discuss how you can use the ideas of platform thinking to help you grow your career or business, e.g., insights from the video you watched on how platforms change the rules of strategy from resource control to resource orchestration, from internal optimization to external interaction, from a focus on individual value to a focus on ecosystem value, and so on.
Use this article to understand how platforms have changed the rule of strategy, read the article Pipelines, Platforms, and the New Rules of Strategy(https://hbr.org/2016/04/pipelines-platforms-and-the-new-rules-of-strategy):
Note the key strategy mind shift in platform thinking:
1. From resource control to resource orchestration.
2. From internal optimization to external interaction.
3. Focus on ecosystem value creation.

Make a PowerPoint presentation or an annotated outline that covers a chosen topic from the textbook. Find another source to supplement the information taken from the textbook. Ensure that the source is a quality source. Present the information in a PowerPoint presentation or an annotated outline. The PowerPoint presentation or annotated outline needs to clearly outline all of the important information about the topic you have chosen. Imagine delivering the PowerPoint or the annotated outline to an audience that is new to the subject matter. Cite your sources.
Choose a topic from the textbook to make a PowerPoint presentation or annotated outline.
Do some research. Find another quality source: Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy Links to an external site., academic articles, primary sources, etc.
Provide at least two sources (your textbook and at least one other source). Be sure to cite your sources.
Use the information you have gathered to create a well-organized PowerPoint presentation with 7-10 slides or an annotated outline.
Be sure that your PowerPoint or annotated outline delivers all of the relevant information:
Introduction: Introduce the reader/audience to your chosen topic. Include a clear definition or description of the topic followed by a brief but clear explanation of this definition/description. Use your book and at least one additional source.
Explain the importance of your topic and why others should find it interesting. Use at least one source that agrees with your position and another source that does not agree with your position (in other words cite one source that agrees with you and one that does not).
Explain the importance of your topic to an audience that knows little or nothing about it. Provide some reason for the audience to care about this and try to motivate them to learn more on their own.
Conclusion: Provide a summary of your topic. Include one or two sentences to clearly describe the topic and its importance.
Here is a reference for the PowerPoint Download reference for the PowerPoint. Here is a reference for the annotated outline Download reference for the annotated outline.
Do not put your name or the course name anywhere in your PowerPoint presentation or annotated outline.
Determine which degree plan you are pursuing: AA, AS, AAT, AAS
When you save your PowerPoint or annotated outline only use one of the following as a file name:
AA
AS
AAT
AAS

The literature review involves finding relevant publications (such as books and journal articles), critically analyzing them, and explaining what you found. A good literature review does not just summarize sources; but also analyzes, synthesizes, and provides a critical evaluation of current knowledge on the subject. A clear statement of the problem along with a concise literature review will guide your Research Question and your research study.
You probably will not be able to read absolutely everything that has been written on the topic; you will have to evaluate which sources are most relevant to your questions and find out what is already known about the problem and pinpoint the exact aspect that your research will address. Make sure the sources you use are credible, and make sure you read any landmark studies and major theories in your research. Students are to write a 4 page literature review using Peer-reviewed research articles and scholarly journals. In reviewing the literature, students should focus on the following:
What question or problem is the author addressing?
What are the key concepts and how are they defined?
What are the key theories, models, and methods? Does the research use established frameworks or take an innovative approach?
What are the results and conclusions of the study?
How does the publication relate to other literature in the field? Does it confirm, add to, or challenge established knowledge?
How does the publication contribute to your understanding of the topic? What are its key insights and arguments?
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the research?
The topic is ADHD
My research question is how children with adhd struggle to manage their emotions or actions and the need to control them.

These are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.”
–Thomas Paine
Open your mailbox during a campaign year and you will receive hundreds of unsolicited, political handbills. In addition to a handbill articulating why candidate X deserves yet another term in office, you may receive public policy handbills. These public policy handbills may argue for particular political, social, and/or economic cause. An example of a public policy handbill can be found via Philadelphia’s Office of Supporting Housing. As a supplement to campaign advertising in newspapers, radio, television, and the Internet, handbills play an important role in the political process.
The circulation of handbills has a storied past dating back to the early, revolutionary era. Thomas Paine is remembered as one of the most influential figures of the American Revolution. Was he a general? No. Was he a Founding Father? No. But, it was Paine’s two, incredibly influential pamphlets (for our sake, let us call them handbills), Common Sense and Crisis, that first convinced many colonists to advocate independence and second argued for continued, military recruitment during the early stages of the American Revolutionary War.

You and your classmates have decided to start a business together. You realize that you will need to obtain venture capital to ensure the success of your business venture. Put together a detailed proposal in the form of a presentation to me as the venture capital officer. Include in your proposal the following:
1) What kind of business structure you will form and why.
2) Provide me with the contractual agreements that you have in place for the business. If you’ve formed an LLC I would like to see your Operating Agreement, and tell me why you chose that kind of entity. If you’ve formed a Partnership, tell me what kind of Partnership and why you chose that kind of entity. I would like to see the Partnership Agreement. You are also free to form any other kind of business entity. Just let me know the reasoning behind your choice.
3) Tell me if your business is or is not going to be a Franchise, and demonstrate your understanding of a Franchise, Franchisor and Franchisee in your presentation.
