Swamped with your writing assignments? Take the weight off your shoulder!
One of the requirements of this internship class is to write a paper applying sociological knowledge and analysis to the work of the agency at which you intern. You should choose the following social variables to serve as the focus of your paper: Reputation and Stigma Your paper should contain an analysis of how the social variable you choose to consider affects the work of the agency at which you are interning. For example, how does this social factor affect the need that the agency serves to meet? How does it determine which people are most likely to come to the agency in the first place? How does it shape the day to day work of the agency, including how the agency processes individuals and the decisions it makes about them? Does this social variable lead some people served by the agency to be treated differently from others? How might changes in this social variable bring about changes in the work of the agency? Considering just this variable and the role it plays in the operation of the agency, what recommendations or predictions would you make for the future? Your readings for the course will depend on the social variable you choose to consider. We can discuss your personal readings during our one-on-one meetings, or by email. You will need to include mention of some relevant previous work in your paper; this will require a References section at the end. The paper and its citations must be prepared in APA (American Psychological Association) or ASA (American Sociological Association) format. Your finished paper should be about five or six pages in length and is due on or before August 12.
