The task is a reflective account of practice linked to theory and should be no more than 1500 words long, though try to write above 1350..
Here is one model for how to write it.
1) According to this task you need to ‘link your essay to practice’. This means you need to give an example of you mentoring or coaching somebody. This could be informally or formally, in a workplace or in another context (this should be anonymised). Therefore, perhaps in the introduction simply describe the context: 200 words.
2) You then need to link your experience to theory, so possibly you could then link this to leadership theories. If you are new to the course possibly focus on linking this to concepts of ’emotional intelligence’. If this is a later module you could explore this based on other learning: 500 words.
3) You could also link this to the GROW model or other models of coaching, you could also discuss the extent to which you coached or mentored and the difference between these two ideas: 500 words.
4) Finally, you could conclude by looking forward to ways in which you could develop your practice and you could critique the models you used: 300 words.
This is just one way to approach this – as long as you link theory to practice different approaches are fine.
This is a personal reflection so write in the first person ‘I’ ‘my’.
Perhaps 5-10 academic articles or book chapters would be a good amount to underpin this essay.
