Swamped with your writing assignments? Take the weight off your shoulder!
InstructionsFor this assignment, you will create an original, informational, 3- to 5-minute video as though you are standing in front of the local news media. If possible, work with your local news media to create the video, but this is not required.
Before proceeding, click here to review the background information. You will use your skills as a fire and emergency services (FES) administrator to respond to the allegations made by the watchdog. As a part of your preparation for this response, you requested an Incident Action Plan (IAP) ICS Form 202 to review. Click here to review the ICS Form 202. The allegations made to the news media include the items listed below.
The fire department is not adhering to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1710 standard of a minimum of four firefighters on the first due engine.
The Washington Fire Department (WFD) did not comply with training requirements for hazardous materials response, which are mandated by law.
Fire department personnel entered the hot zone without hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER) training.
Elected officials and the public are not apprised of what is going on in the fire department.
You will need to demonstrate best practices for dealing with the media as you make your presentation. You will need to discuss the decision your firefighters made to protect the residents of the nursing home by supporting their actions even though many believe it was unethical to cause the massive fish kill. You will need to discuss the legal aspect of HAZWOPER and firefighters just beginning the training. You will need to discuss keeping elected officials and the public aware of fire department goals for training.
The video should provide a clear visual of you speaking. Ensure that you dress properly and speak naturally in a pleasant, social way. You may use any recording equipment to record your video, including a cell phone. Record your video in front of a local fire department (if possible) or a relevant backdrop. Please ensure that there are no distracting or overbearing sounds that hinder the ability to clearly hear your presentation. Make sure you have a script on what you are going to present, but do not read verbatim from the script; rather, practice until you are comfortable speaking without looking at your script. Ensure your video and written transcript address the requirements set forth above.
After you have recorded the video, you will upload it to YouTube. Click here to access instructions on how to upload a video to YouTube.
To submit your 3-minute video, copy the link from YouTube into a Word document. In addition to the YouTube link, also include your written transcript in the Word document, and submit it through Blackboard. You should include at least one source that supports your recommendation. Include a reference page containing any material or sources used, and follow APA guidelines.
Remember to review the rubric before you submit the link of your original video.
If you do not have a way to record a video, you may create an eight-slide PowerPoint presentation instead. For the presentation, you must follow the same prompt as described above, but you must also include any image(s) that you would use in the town hall meeting. The presentation needs a title slide, which should include your name, the date, and the title of your presentation, and a reference slide. The title slide and reference slide do not count toward meeting the eight-slide minimum. You will do a voiceover narration for every slide—except for the reference slide. Ensure you follow APA guidelines.

InstructionsFor this assignment, you will write a reflection paper on your experience with the assignments, course, and what you have learned.
When responding to one of the questions below, please keep in mind how fire and emergency services (FES) administrators will continually strive to improve emergency management as well as the impact and influence the future will have on FES administrators. Reflect on how this learning experience has caused you to change or influenced your thoughts on advanced fire administration. Additionally, use your experience during the course to respond to one of the questions below.
Will you change any FES actions because of this course? How? Why, or why not?
Did the course have any positive or negative bearing on your thoughts about fire administration?
Looking back, what would you have done differently in writing any of your assignments?
Why do you think you made the particular responses to the assignments that you did? Do you think these were the right responses?
What are your thoughts on the overall experience in general? Was it a useful learning experience? What specific skills or perspectives did you acquire as a result that will make the task of being an FES administrator more effective?
Additionally, address your ideas presented and your insights for future learning. This is not a summary. A reflection paper is an opportunity for you to express your thoughts about the material you are studying by writing about it. Writing a reflection paper is a great way to study because it gives you a chance to process what you have learned and increases your ability to remember it.
Your reflection paper should be a minimum of three pages in length.
